OK.. So last night i went off with some American foreign exchange students to this 24 hour diner at 3AM to go and watch the vice president debate (Palin (who i really also want to see naked) VS Bidel. ) Ok so besides the fact that the debate was really really really crap and not really a debate there are a few points I noticed and will try and write some of them down. Please note I am not a politics academic or someone who can clearly analyze the current situation from an academic stand point. I am just a normal guy (Computer Engineer BSc), who is just reading and putting some notes to paper. Still I feel the points that I am about to address are relevant. If you have any comments or suggestions please email me at "tjma2001 [at] gmail 'dot' com" with freethemusic in the subject line
So we start off first with a recurring theme that I noticed going on around the debate as well as American politics right now. The war on TERROR. lets start off with taking a look at what terror means. Doing a quick google define on terror gives us the following results
panic: an overwhelming feeling of fear and anxiety
a person who inspires fear or dread; "he was the terror of the neighborhood"
a very troublesome child
the use of extreme fear in order to coerce people (especially for political reasons); "he used terror to make them confess" wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
Before we continue lets get two more definitions, Terrorism and Terrorist:
Terrorism is the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion."[1] There is no internationally agreed definition of terrorism.[2][3] Most common definitions of terrorism include only those acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for an ideological goal (as opposed to a lone attack), and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants. Some definitions also include acts of unlawful violence and war. A common opinion about terrorist groups, especially after the 'Global War on Terror' began after 9/11/2001, is that the majority of terrorist attacks are due to Islamic-extremists or radical religious groups. The 2001 attack of the World Trade Center and the hijacking of four passenger jets are a very well known and a well documented example of Islamic terrorism in recent memory.

Ok so here we have a few definition which we shall get to and explain. Lets start off with terror. From the list of definitions that I have copied and pasted the one that is the most relevant is "panic: an overwhelming feeling of fear and anxiety" as well as "the use of extreme fear in order to coerce people (especially for political reasons)" , this is a recurring theme that we can see is echoed in terrorism. And I am sure that most of the readers of this post will agree with me that this is what the aim of a terrorist is, that is to instill terror in the minds of the victims and those connected directly or indirectly to the Act of which the terrorist carried out.
Either way we can see that terror ( verb or adjective ) and terrorism are not tangible things. We cannot touch it or see it really. We perceive it, mostly visually and unfortunately some of us physically through the actions of terrorists . Its not something we can directly wage a war against, or fight directly. A war on Terror thus cannot be one associated as to one directly fighting terrorism but more a war on the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks. This is the only logical inference one can take when reading the statement "Global War on Terror" even though its pretty darn vague. Its a fight against bad dreams or troublesome children (well in some cases yes they are) or Lions and other bush animals that instill terror in their prey when they are spotted. It must also be noted that the vagueness of the statement "Global War on Terror" means that the war can and most proabably will be waged on any entity that can be declared as terrorist by any powerful body (mostly nations.) This declaration of calling people terrorists has been used in various cases in Africa and around the world to oppress opposition as well as minorities to further dictatorships, but thats another piece of writing. When you are declared a terrorist, you loose your human rights, you will be shot and killed, blown up or whatever other inventions of mass murder "peace loving" nations of the world try and invent. Terrorism is faught against with by counter terrorism. The harm, death and destruction caused by counter terrorism pales in comparison to terrorism. The total cost of counter terrorism on the whole is much higher. I find it funny (not in an amusing way) that people seem to neglect the human cost of wars of this nature.
Imagine this scenario. You are sitting in your office working away doing your job, you a pretty nice guy (at least you think you are) and get along with people around you. Now one day while you are working someone totally random walks up to you, pulls out a gun and points it to you and says "hey buddy, you gonna die in about 3 seconds", what would the first thought that comes into your head? I know what I would think, "Who the fuck are you and why the fuck do you want to kill me". BANG!!! I'snt that the question millions of Americans should have been asking after September 11th. Perhaps not, it wasnt the first terrorist attack launched against the United states that was declared a terrorist attack by the Federal Government. Palin in the debate made mention the reason that these attacks occur are due to the "fact" that these extremists hate the peace loving nation of the USA. Besides the "peace loving nation" part being utter bullshit ( no offence here to Americans. Unfortuantely you have a government that does not represent you, so when I say what I just said its an attack on the government not you as citizens ) do you really think these extremists hate peace? Do you really think that the reason or part of the reason they attack and kill innocent people is due to the fact that your nation is peace loving, even if it was a peace loving nation. Why arent they attacking Switzerland or Poland or South Africa, Taiwan, the list is long and you get the picture. Lets not get too distracted by Palins BS.
We need to take a look at why someone would want to attack the United States as part of a Holy War waged from from the middle east.
